Dear customers, colleagues and friends,
Making healthy suncare people love to wear has been, since its inception, COOLA’s fundamental mission. When we launched in 2007, we were among the first – if not the very first – US suncare company to formulate without oxybenzone in our sunscreens. We were the first company to incorporate 70%+ organic ingredients into classic sunscreens and we pioneered the use of plant protection, naturally boosting the feel and performance of our formulas. Additionally, our mineral sunscreen collection has always been a cornerstone of our brand. Over the past ten years, we are proud to have introduced chemical-active free, wearable mineral sunscreen formulas to a new generation.
COOLA applauds last week’s decision by the Hawaii Legislature to ban oxybenzone and octinoxate from Hawaii by January 2021. We’re proud to say that most of our products already meet these requirements and by the end of 2018, all COOLA formulas will also be octinoxate-free; the result of three years of hard work, foresight and innovation by our team. During this time period, we’ve actively lobbied Congress to introduce new sunscreen actives into the US – something that is desperately needed, long overdue and has significantly contributed to the issues we witness today.
Our challenge – and passion – has always been to create organic sunscreens that safely protect our friends and our environment. We look at the entire sunscreen formula – not just SPF actives – when evaluating our success. Over fifty percent of US waterways are polluted, with much of the damage coming from the over-use of pesticides. Sourcing our raw ingredients from organic farms significantly lessens our impact on rivers and streams, and the oceans they run into.
We are optimistic that communities and companies alike are starting to pay more attention to our collective environmental impact, helping drive this change. At COOLA, our commitment and constant pursuit is to raise awareness of sun protection, to persevere towards a better and healthier product, and do so in the least invasive manner for our skin and the Planet.
Together we can make a difference. We appreciate and join everyone’s efforts on our united journey towards a better tomorrow.
In gratitude,
Chris
