The weather is finally heating up in Auckland and it's time to slap on some Coola and spend some time in the sun. There's so much to do this month so we thought we'd put together a few of our favourite happenings so you can start planning your summer now.

 

American Express Open Air Cinemas
When: January 15th - February 16th
Where: Western Springs

Kick back, relax and celebrate summer at American Express Open Air Cinemas. For a whole month, they’ll be bringing some of your favourite films to Western Springs. With delicious food, a fully stocked bar and a comfortable range of seating options (or you can bring your own) - this is the perfect night out under the stars. Films playing this season include Hustlers, Charlies Angels, Joker, JumanjI: The Next Level, Frozen II and more! Check their website for the full film list.

 

Chinese New Year Festival & Market Day
When: January 18th 9:30am-4pm
Where: ASB Showgrounds

Ring in the Year of the Rat at the 2020 Chinese New Year Festival and Market Day. With over 200 specialist stalls, they’ll be hot delicacies, traditional arts and crafts, rides for the kids and outdoor entertainment including cultural songs, dances and martial arts performances. This fun-filled day is a free event that’s great for the whole family.

 

Music in Parks: A world music celebration
When: January 19th 1pm-4pm
Where: Auckland Domain

Music In Parks has become a must when it comes to spending summer in Auckland. The world music celebration is your chance to immerse yourself in another culture’s music genre - whether it be a gypsy brass extravaganza, Indian jazz or Caribbean steel band - there’s something for everyone to enjoy. So gather your friends, bring a picnic, and spend a fun day in the sun.

 

Silo Park’s Ice Cream Sundae
When: January 26th - 12noon-5pm
Where: Silo Park

Is it really an Auckland summer without an ice cream down by the waterfront? Silo Park’s Ice Cream Sundae market is the perfect place to try an abundance of sweet treats, with all of your favourite ice cream vendors coming out for some fun in the sun.

This year’s vendors include Nice Blocks, Little Island, Dr Feelgood, Flossy’s Ice Cream, Grown up Donuts and more. To accompany your icy treat, they’ll also be a selection of Auckland’s finest hot food trucks, DJs spinning all day long and some delicious ice cream inspired drinks fresh from the Silo pop up bar.

 

Laneway Festival
When: January 27th
Where: Albert Park, CBD

It’s one of the most anticipated events on the festival calendar - and St Jerome’s Laneway Festival is back for another year. This year is the 11th Anniversary of the much loved festival and the lineup of both international and local stars is not one to be missed. Acts include The 1975, Charli XCX, Earl Sweatshirt and more. They’ll also be a huge range of local eats on hand so get your friends together, pick out your best festival outfits and head along.

 

Yoga in the sky
When: February 5th & February 19th
Where: Auckland Skytower

If you’re a fan of yoga - or even trying it out for the first time, what better way to experience it with breath-taking views at 186 metres above Auckland city? Yoga in the Sky is just that, with yoga sessions on the main observation deck of our most iconic building. With a mix of classes, there’s something for every level from beginner to advanced. Whether you’re wanting upbeat and dynamic or slow and restorative, Yoga in The Sky is sure to be something you’ll never forget.
